Itinerant Business License
Definition
An itinerant business is defined as one that does not have a permanent business location within the City of Charleston but conducts business within the jurisdiction of the City of Charleston.

Every person proposing to conduct, carry on or pursue a business activity within the city, shall make application to the city for a business license.

Examples
Types of itinerant businesses include:
  • A contractor working on a project in the City of Charleston
  • Vendors for a special event or festival, such as Piccolo Spoleto, the Farmer's Market or South Eastern Wildlife Expo
  • Roadside produce or food vendors
  • Towing
  • Consulting services
  • Outside sales and services

Licensing
Itinerant businesses coming into the city to conduct business activities are required to purchase a business license. The business license fee is based on the gross income derived from the itinerant’s business conducted within the city. Businesses which already have a City of Charleston business license are not required to have an additional license.
