Lieutenants

Lieutenant Thomas Adams earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Curriculum Development from Southern Illinois University and Master of Arts in Education from the Citadel.  He served eight years as a Navy Diver attached to Explosive Ordinance Disposal Mobile Unit Six prior to joining the City of Charleston Police Department in 1999.

During his 17 year tenure in law enforcement he was assigned to following areas: Uniform Patrol Division, Special Operations, Team 4 Investigations, Central Investigation Division, Professional Development and Training, and Community Outreach.  He is currently assigned as the Commander of Team Three Patrol (James/Johns Island).

In addition to his various assignments, Lieutenant Adams has served on the Civil Disturbance Unit, Underwater Recovery Unit and has been an operator on the SWAT Team for 12 years including 4 years as the Team Leader.  He has extensive experience and training in high risk operations and leads instruction for basic and advanced SWAT tactics.

Lieutenant Jennie Antonio earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from the College of Charleston in May 1997.  She served as a juvenile probation officer with the Department of Juvenile Justice for approximately one year before joining the City of Charleston police department as a sworn officer in September 1998. While serving as a sworn officer she earned a Masters of Education from The Citadel.

During her 17 year tenure in law enforcement she has achieved the rank of Lieutenant and worked in the following areas: Uniform Patrol Division, Central Investigation Division, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Task Force and Professional Standards Office. She is currently the Lieutenant over Community Outreach, Recruitment & Retention, Housing Outreach & Support and Crime Prevention. She is also a member of the Peer Support Team, Wellness Committee, and Events Committee.

Lieutenant David Bridges is currently assigned as the Commander of Special Events.  He joined the Charleston Police Department in 1986. His previous experience includes uniform patrol in Team One, patrol and investigations in Team Four, service as a desk Sergeant and several years as a detective assigned to the Central Investigations Unit. He also previously served as the Team One Commander, Team Two Commander and the Commander of the Office of Professional Development & Training. 

Lt. Bridges has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Arts degree in Education from The Citadel and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 233.

Lieutenant Jason Bruder graduated Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Long Island University with a Master’s of Science in Homeland Security Management.  Lt. Bruder completed SC Police Corps in 2002 and started with the department assigned to Team 1.  From there, he moved on to Narcotics and then to Team 4 Patrol.  In 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was the first supervisor of the Field Intelligence Unit. His assignment prior to being promoted to Lieutenant in 2015 was to oversee the creation of the School Security Response Team. Lt. Bruder is now the Commander for Team 4 Patrol (West Ashley).  In addition to his primary duties, he is also the Commander of the Civil Disturbance Unit. 

In addition to his various assignments, Lt. Bruder served on the SWAT Team as an operator for 9 years.  He has extensive training in high risk operations, firearms instructions, and is certified in Crisis Intervention. He is also a graduate of the 62nd Session of the Administrative Offices Management Program.

Lieutenant Anita Craven currently serves as the Commander of the Professional Standards Office. She joined the Charleston Police Department in 1993.  She has served the Department in Patrol Teams One, Three, Four, and Five. She has also worked as a Team Investigator, as a Crime Prevention Officer, and as a Burglary Detective.  Lieutenant Craven has previously served as the Team Five Commander, the Team Three Commander, and the Property Crimes Commander.  In addition to her primary duties, she is also the Commander of the Crisis Negotiation Team.

Her educational background includes graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Charleston.  She also received her Master of Arts in Human Resource Management in 2001.

Lieutenant Anthony Cretella graduated from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice in December of 2004. He joined the Charleston Police Department in April of 2005 and served as a patrolman in Team 2 and Team 4. From there, he became the Department's lead training officer for the Professional Development and Training Office in May of 2010. Lieutenant Cretella was promoted out of the office as a Sergeant and assigned as a squad supervisor in Team 4 as well as serving as the Patrol Training Sergeant for Team 4. In April of 2015, he was assigned to the Sergeant's position within the Professional Standards Office. In 2016, Lieutenant Cretella was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and currently serves as the midnight shift Command Duty Officer.

In addition to his various assignments, Lieutenant Cretella is the assistant commander of the Civil Disturbance Unit and has been a member since 2006. He currently oversees the Department's TASER and Oleoresin Capsicum programs and is involved in leadership classes that the Department hosts.

Lieutenant Peter Farrell who currently serves as the Crime Information Operations Center (CIOC) Commander, joined the Charleston Police Department full-time in 1995. He has served the Department in Patrol Teams One, Two, and Three.  He has also worked as a Team Investigator, and a Burglary Detective. Lieutenant Farrell has previously served as a Command Duty Officer, Team Three Commander and the Property Crimes Unit Commander in the Central Investigations Unit.  In addition to his primary duties, he is also a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team. 

His educational background includes graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Justice from the State University of New York College at Oswego. He received his Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Charleston Southern University in 2001.

Lieutenant Robert Gamard graduated from the University of South Carolina in the Spring of 1997 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.  In August 1997 he attended the First Police Corps Training Academy in Baltimore, Maryland.  After graduating from the Police Corps, he began working here at the Charleston Police Department in the Patrol Division.  His previous experience includes 13 years in the Uniformed Patrol Division (Team’s One, Two, Three and Foot Patrol) along with assignments in the warrants division as well as the Administrative Sergeant in both Team’s One and Two. When assigned to Team One, he also served on the CPD Hiring Board and as the Patrol Training Coordinator for new recruits. He also served as a midnight Command Duty Officer and Team Two Commander.

In addition to the above various assignments Lieutenant Gamard has assisted in instructing many training classes here at CPD to include Leadership,  Block Training and the Field Training Program.  He is also a certified OC and Taser Instructor.  He is currently assigned as the Crimes Against Property Commander, in the Central Investigations Division.

Lieutenant Charles Hawkins is currently assigned to the Operations Bureau, Commander, Team One.  In this capacity, he is directly responsible for all police related operations encompassing the northeast end of the peninsula of Charleston. He accomplishes his mission with 75 sworn personnel.  Lt. Hawkins began his career with the Charleston Police Department in 1984 after serving two years with the Department of Public Safety as a patrol officer assigned to Trident Technical College in North Charleston, S.C.  Since joining the Charleston Police Department he has held critical positions in the Operations, Administrative, and Investigative Bureaus and is well versed in all aspects of police field and internal operations.  He is a graduate of the 182nd Session, FBI National Academy, and during his career has traveled across the county speaking to community groups on strategies to impact neighborhood crime and crime reductions initiatives.  He also serves as an executive board member with the Police Association for College Education, chartered to improve professional standards in policing through formal college education initiatives. 

Lieutenant Hawkins is also retired from the United States Air Force Reserve. He is a veteran of the Gulf and Iraq War where he served as First Sergeant advising Commanders on issues affecting morale, welfare, utilization of forces, and the overall well-being of the enlisted force. He also served as an adjunct instructor at the U.S. Air Force First Sergeant Academy.

Lieutenant Andre Jenkins is from Eutawville, South Carolina and graduated from Holly Hill-Roberts High School in Holly Hill, South Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from South Carolina State University. While in college, Lt. Jenkins received numerous athletic awards in Track and Field. After college he was hired by the Charleston Police Department as a patrolman in Team 1.  As a member of the Police Department, he has served in different units to include: Foot Patrol, Narcotics, SWAT, Team 4 Power Squad, FIU and Command Duty Officer. Lt. Jenkins is currently assigned as Commander of the Special Investigations Unit in the Central Investigations Division. Lt. Jenkins enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Lieutenant Heath King is currently assigned as the Commander of the Central Business District, the portion of the city that includes the Market along with Upper and Lower King Street.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina.

He is also a 1997 graduate of the Baltimore, Maryland Police Corps Academy. After graduating from the Police Corps, he began at the Charleston Police Department in the Team One patrol division.  Lt. King also spent time in Team Four and as a fugitive investigator in the Warrants Division.  He also spent time in the Traffic Division as a motor officer and supervisor.  He was certified in Collision Reconstruction and assisted in the investigation of major collisions that occurred in the city.  Lt. King also served as patrol supervisor in the Team Two area and was assigned as the Tourism liaison for the Police Department. He works daily with the city’s business services, zoning, planning and transportation departments to maintain a successful management plan for the city’s growing hospitality areas.

Lieutenant Christine Middleton joined the Charleston Police Department on December 1990. She graduated from Baptist Hill High School, received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Voorhees College and Basic Training Certification from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. 

Lt. Middleton has served the Charleston Police Department in many capacities that include: Uniform Patrol Division-Teams 2 & 3, Central Investigation Division- Burglary Investigator, Office of the Chief of Police-Administrative Assistant, VICE Investigator, Internal Affairs-Investigator, Administrative Services-Training Administrative Sergeant, Midnight Shift Command Duty Officer, Team 5 Commander & Support Services Unit Commander. She is currently the Team Two Commander, the southern portion of the peninsula. She is also a Certified Basic Instructor.

Lt. Middleton has received numerous departmental commendations for outstanding acts and dedication to duty. Community recognition awards include: the NAACP Trail Blazer Award and MLK Portrait Award.

Lieutenant Arthur Myers is a graduate of a local High School and The Citadel.  He also has a Master’s Degree from Liberty University.  Currently he commands the Office of Professional Development & Training. Prior assignments as a commander include Team Three and Command Duty Officer

Lt. Myers has served as the Honor Guard Bugler since becoming a Police officer and currently co-chairs the Awards Committee at CPD.

Lieutenant Katrina Rivers 
has been with the Charleston Police Department 18 years.  She completed an internship with the City of Charleston Police Department in the summer of 1995  and received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from The University of South Carolina with a minor in Sociology and Social Work in December 1995. In 1996, she completed training to become a volunteer Reserve Officer with the City of Charleston. In February 1997, she joined the department as a sworn officer. During her tenure, Lieutenant Rivers has been assigned to various areas to include Team 4 (West Ashley), the Vice Unit, Team 2 (supervisor/Corporal - Downtown), administration/Training Division, Team 3 (Sergeant - James and Johns Island), Team 5 Commander (Lieutenant - Daniel Island) and midnight shift Command Duty Officer. During her 18 years, Lt. Rivers has received various training to include becoming a certified instructor, various specific skills training, and  management/leadership training.

Lieutenant Michael Thomas was born and raised in Lima, Ohio.  He was in the United States Air Force from 1986-1990.  Lt. Thomas earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from The Ohio State University in 1994.  He was awarded the JP Strom Award at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in 1996.  Lt. Thomas has been on Team 2 patrol and was the Team 2 investigator.  Lt. Thomas has also served as a Narcotics Detective, Team 3 Patrol Supervisor, served on the SWAT team for 14 yrs, a Team Leader, and served as the SWAT Commander, Team 3 Administrative Sergeant, Professional Standards Sergeant, Administrative Support Lieutenant, and Special Events and Projects Lieutenant. He is currently the Lieutenant over Special Units.

Lieutenant Dustin Thompson graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.  Lt. Thompson completed the SC Criminal Justice Academy in 2002 and started with the department assigned to patrol West Ashley in Team 4.  In 2005, Lt. Thompson joined the department’s Harbor Patrol Unit assisting the Department of Homeland Security securing the Port of Charleston and participating in numerous water and land rescues. In 2007, Lt. Thompson joined the department’s Traffic Division serving both in traffic and DUI enforcement as well as the department’s fatal accident investigative team.  In 2009, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant serving in Team’s 2 and 3 as a patrol sergeant. His assignment’s prior to being promoted to Lieutenant in 2016 was serving as the administrative sergeant in both Team 3 and the Burglary Unit of the Central Detective Office.  Lt. Thompson has served as the midnight shift Command Duty Officer and is currently assigned as the Crimes Against Persons Commander in the Central Investigations Division.
