Clean Cities Sweep

Clean Cities Sweep Community Group Projects

Group of people with sign after cleaning up litter

Clean Cities Sweep takes place annually, and counts as our local participation event for the Great American Cleanup. Clean Cities Sweep will take place this year from March 20th - June 20th and is a call to action for the community to plan litter  cleanup and beatification events. Most projects average around 2 hours, and they can be any event that helps both the community and the environment. Groups interested in conducting a Clean Cities Sweep project/event for 2022 will need to register their event. Registration for projects opens February 1st, and will need to be completed via the online Clean Cities Sweep Registration Form.  Request project supplies will be provided on a first come first serve basis while supplies last.

We also launched our DIY Cleanup Kit in 2021 as part of the Clean Cities Sweep Event. The DIY Cleanup Kits are designed for individuals or small families to be able to conduct their own litter cleanup efforts on a regular basis. Volunteers can keep the kit indefinitely, or just borrow the kit for a limited amount of time.  Kits can be requested via our online DIY Litter Cleanup Kit Request Form

Supplies

Litter cleanup supplies are lent out to large groups of volunteers when available, and include GLAD trash bags, gloves, trash grabbers, visibility vests, first aid kits, hand sanitizer, and other necessary supplies. Groups can also plan beautification projects, in additional to litter cleanup events. Unfortunately our funding source for beautification related projects is very limited, so we will not be able to provide beautification supplies on the scale we have been able to in past years.  Please reach out directly via email if you would like to inquire about beautification supplies. We look forward to working with your group to keep Charleston beautiful and litter-free!
