Time to Prepare

Charleston Police Department is currently accepting applications. You do not need to be a South Carolina resident to apply. Please review our Application Instructions page before you apply. You must complete and bring the Personal History Questionnaire (PDF) with you to the physical agility test.

Test Date

If you are selected for testing, a representative from the Personnel Department will contact you to schedule a date to test. It is recommended you bring a change of clothing in case of inclement weather on your day of testing. Questions regarding tattoos please review our tattoo policy.

Basic Adult Education

Until then, you can prepare for the process by brushing up on basic adult education (reading comprehension, math, spelling, and grammar). If you don’t already exercise, now is the time to start a progressive training program so you can be physically prepared to complete all of the required events.
