About the Program

AmeriCorps VISTA is…the national service program of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) designed specifically to fight poverty. VISTA supports local efforts by engaging members in a one-year, full-time service year with a local organization. All VISTA projects seek to build the capacity and sustainability of local organizations and agencies to serve their clients more effectively.

The City of Charleston is proud to serve as the local Project Sponsor for AmeriCorps VISTA, providing member slots to organizations and agencies serving the Charleston Community.

VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year at a nonprofit organization, public agency, or local government agency to complete a specific project that builds capacity.  VISTA members generally do not provide direct services; instead, they strengthen and support organizations by building infrastructure, expanding community partnerships, securing long-term resources, coordinating training for participants, and much more.
