The American Public Works Association is an international organization that promotes public works activities and departments for counties and municipalities. Each year, the South Carolina Chapter holds an annual conference and backhoe rodeo which brings together public work professionals in the public and private sectors, as well as vendors, consultants, and national leaders. One of the most popular events is the Backhoe Rodeo where operations personnel compete using a (stationary) backhoe in games that test their fine motor skills.
