Police Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision on Savannah Highway
Charleston, S.C. - The Charleston Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle. This collision occurred on February 19, 2023, at 9:40 pm on Savannah Highway near the intersection of Magnolia Road.
A motor vehicle was traveling southbound on Savannah Highway when it struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the road before hitting a tree and overturning. First Responders arrived at the scene to render aid. The male pedestrian was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The vehicle driver remained on the scene and was taken to the hospital along with the two other occupants with non-life-threatening injuries. MAIT investigators closed Savannah Highway between Magnolia Road and Radio Road while they completed their preliminary investigation. Officers reopened the roadway at 4:00 am to vehicular traffic.
This fatal collision remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased.

This fatal accident is the fourth (4ᵗʰ) fatal collision investigated by the Charleston Police
Department in 2023.
