Charleston Police Department Investigates Downtown Shooting That Leaves One Dead

Charleston, S.C. - The Charleston Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on August 6, 2023, that left one dead.

At approximately 10:58 am on August 6, 2023, CPD Team One patrol officers were dispatched to reports of an injured male lying in the street near Johnson and America Streets in downtown Charleston. Offices arrived within minutes and located a male suffering from obvious gunshot wounds. CPD patrol officers rendered aid to the victim until the Charleston Fire Department and EMS arrived. The victim was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

CPD Central Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians responded to the scene and immediately began investigating the incident. That investigation revealed that an incident occurred at a residence in the 0-100 block of Stuart St., where the victim was shot before he fled the scene and eventually collapsed nearby. At this time, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased. This appears to investigators to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the on-duty CPD Central Detective at (843)720-2422. Anyone with information who wishes to remain anonymous is asked to contact Lowcountry Crime Stoppers at (843)554-1111.
