The City of Charleston has arranged to have U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers conduct in-person enrollment interviews for applicants to CBP’s Global Entry program in Charleston at the Gaillard Center first floor public meeting room at 2 George Street August 22 through August 25, 2017. Typically, local Global Entry applicants must travel to Charlotte for the interview process.
Global Entry is a CBP Trusted Traveler program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Though intended for frequent international travelers, there is no minimum number of trips necessary to qualify for the program. Participants may enter the United States by using automated Global Entry kiosks located at select airports. Global Entry is currently available at 53 U.S. airports, as well as 15 Preclearance locations, and a membership is good for five years. For complete details on the program, please visit
www.globalentry.gov.
Global Entry is designed to be quick, efficient and, at the same time, provide added security for international travelers. While Global Entry's goal is to speed travelers through the process, members are still subject to the same laws and regulations as other travelers, and may be selected for further examination at any time when entering the United States. Global Entry members are also eligible to participate in the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) PreCheck program which expedites screening through TSA checkpoints at participating airports.
Those interested in participating in the interview process at the conference must apply and be conditionally approved prior to the start of the conference. To submit an application, click “Apply Today” on the Global Entry website, which links to the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) site (
https://goes-app.cbp.dhs.gov). At the GOES site, applicants must first create an account, then log in to submit a Global Entry application. Apply online as soon as possible, as in some cases, it can take up to six weeks to become conditionally approved. A $100 non-refundable application fee is paid online at the time of application. Once pre-approved, applicants will receive a message indicating that they are “conditionally approved” for Global Entry and are invited to schedule an interview. Interviews can be scheduled online under the enrollment center ‘CHS’ on the Global Entry website and the interviews will be conducted at the Gaillard Center.
