[ARCHIVED] City of Charleston Urges Residents to Remain Off Roads Overnight

The city of Charleston remains at OPCON 1 and is strongly urging residents to remain off the roads due to continuing hazardous conditions through the night.

According to the 6 p.m. report from the National Weather Service, “Inundation water levels of up to around 3 feet above typical dry ground are possible between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.”

City of Charleston Director of Emergency Management Mark Wilbert said, “Tonight, the city of Charleston remains in response and recovery mode. These extraordinary high tides, coupled with today’s rainfall, have created especially hazardous conditions which will not be resolved until the flood waters recede. It is never safe to drive through flooded roadways, and attempting to drive through them in the dark is particularly dangerous.”
