[ARCHIVED] City of Charleston AM Winter Weather Update for Jan. 3, 2018

At 7 a.m., the city of Charleston Emergency Operation Center opened at an OPCON level of 4.

As wintery weather, including ice and snow, continues to move through the region, area residents are encouraged to remain up to date on the latest weather forecasts and are urged to avoid all unnecessary travel.

As of 9 a.m., roads and bridges were beginning to close due to hazardous conditions. An up-to-date list of city closures is available at gis.charleston-sc.gov/road-closures.

City of Charleston public service employees have begun salting operations of key road ways, and the city is working with area power companies to monitor electrical services throughout the city.

A citizen information line for winter weather-related inquiries has been established at 843-973-7219. This line is for non-emergency calls only. All emergency calls should continue to be made to 911.
