[ARCHIVED] City of Charleston Monitors Potential Tropical Cyclone Three

City of Charleston Emergency Management officials are in close contact with the National Weather Service as they monitor Potential Tropical Cyclone Three, which is currently in the Gulf of Mexico. While it is too soon to know what impacts the storm may have locally, city staff are making preparations for the potential of severe weather early next week.

The Stormwater department has secured pumps, which will be placed in low lying areas, if needed. Also, crews continue to clear drains and ditches to prepare for the effects of potential flooding.

The Public Safety Operations Center will be activated to manage the city’s response, if the need arises.

With the possibility of severe storms in the forecast for Sunday, citizens are asked to keep their garbage cans secured and place them at the curb only when necessary.

Citizens are encouraged to pay attention to local media forecasts, the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service Charleston websites for the latest updates on the storm.
