Lieutenant Charles Hawkins is
currently assigned to the Operations Bureau, Commander, Team One. In
this capacity, he is directly responsible for all police related
operations encompassing the northeast end of the peninsula of
Charleston. He accomplishes his mission with 75 sworn personnel.
Early Career
Lieutenant Hawkins began his career with the Charleston Police Department in 1984
after serving two years with the Department of Public Safety as a patrol
officer assigned to Trident Technical College in North Charleston,
S.C. Since joining the Charleston Police Department he has held
critical positions in the Operations, Administrative, and Investigative
Bureaus and is well versed in all aspects of police field and internal
operations.
Education & Training
He is a graduate of the 182nd Session, FBI National
Academy, and during his career has traveled across the county speaking
to community groups on strategies to impact neighborhood crime and crime
reductions initiatives. He also serves as an executive board member
with the Police Association for College Education, chartered to improve
professional standards in policing through formal college education
initiatives.
Military Service
Lieutenant Hawkins is also retired from
the United States Air Force Reserve. He is a veteran of the Gulf and
Iraq War where he served as First Sergeant advising Commanders on issues
affecting morale, welfare, utilization of forces, and the overall
well-being of the enlisted force. He also served as an adjunct
instructor at the U.S. Air Force First Sergeant Academy.
