Required Permits
Permits are required for transportation purposes (non-touring), for motor coach parking within the Historic District and those engaged in touring for hire. Designated Bus parking and loading/unloading zones are located throughout the Historic Districts. Buses are required to follow the approved bus route. This route was created to outline appropriate routes for safety and accessibility of larger vehicles.
Permits may be picked up between 10:00am-12:00pm at the Visitor Center Bus Shed located at 375 Meeting Street. Requests should be made in advance by using the online application or in person at the City's Tourism Management Office by email or in person at 75 Calhoun Street, Suite 3400.
Touring Buses & Visitors
When touring the City of Charleston, you must employ the services of a city tour guide. Information on tour guides is available by contacting the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) at 800-868-8118.
Touring by motorized vehicles is prohibited in the residential areas during the following times:
- Eastern Standard Time - 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.
- Day Light Savings Time - 6 p.m. to 9 a.m.
