BAR Guidelines for Historic Properties

The Board of Architectural Review General Guidelines booklet was created to provide guidance for the renovation and rehabilitation of historic buildings as well as new construction. 

The booklet includes an overview of the permitting and plan review process as well as a list of resources that will be helpful for more detailed information on how to care for an historic building. In addition, it contains an abbreviated version of The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, which the Board of Architectural Review and City staff rely on for recommendations.

The Preservation Division is available to answer any questions and property owners are encouraged to check with City staff prior to beginning any work.
