Battery Repair and Reconstruction Project Phase 1
The first phase of the Battery Repair and Reconstruction Project involves the reconstruction of “the turn” - the 120-foot portion of the High Battery where it connects to the Low Battery along Murray Boulevard. Construction is expected to begin in October.

2013 MOJA Arts Festival: A Celebration of African-American and Caribbean Arts
Tickets are on sale for the 30th annual MOJA Arts Festival, A Celebration of African-American and Caribbean Arts, produced by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the MOJA Program Committee. From September 26 through October 6, 2013, the festival offers a variety of arts and cultural programs, including theatre, dance, literary, visual arts, jazz, gospel, reggae, chamber music as well as many free, family-friendly events.

Municipal Golf Course Irrigation Improvements
Improvements to the irrigation system at the City of Charleston Municipal Golf Course could soon be underway. A proposed construction contract with Landirr, Inc. from Sanford, Florida is on the September 10th City Council meeting agenda. Should council approve the contract, work on the irrigation system will begin November 4, 2013 and is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2014.

City Adds Water Taxi Dock at Waterfront Park
During the week of September 25, 2013, a new water taxi dock will become available to the public from the Waterfront Park at Vendue Range and Concord Streets. Located at the end of the ‘T’ shaped pier, the dock will provide access to water taxi services.

City Dedicates Irish Memorial at Charlotte Street Park
The City of Charleston and the South Carolina Irish Historical Society held a Dedication Ceremony for the Irish Memorial on Charlotte Street Park. The ceremony took place at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 10, 2013.
Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., local dignitaries, and an official party from Ireland took part in the ceremony. The Irish party included H.E. Michael Collins Ambassador of Ireland to the United States, Paul Gleeson Consul General of Ireland, Cllr. Peter Considine Mayor of Ennis County Clare, Dr. Martin McAleese Chancellor Dublin City University, Dr. Brian MacCraith President of Dublin City University, and Patrick McDermott, DCU Educational Trust.
Ambassador Collins delivered the dedication address.
