The Charleston Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on July 11, just before 9 p.m., near the intersection of Paul Cantrell Boulevard and Henry Tecklenburg Drive.
Officers determined that a pedestrian was attempting to cross Paul Cantrell Boulevard in a wheelchair when they were struck by a vehicle traveling on the roadway. The vehicle fled the scene following the collision. CPD officers and EMS responded, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries.
The vehicle and its driver have not been located. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours and reopened at 12:45 a.m.
The collision remains under investigation. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased. This is the sixth fatal traffic-related collision investigated by the Charleston Police Department in 2025.
