Sex Offender Arrested for Indecent Exposure and Assaulting Police

The Charleston Police Department arrested a suspect following a report of indecent exposure in Hampton Park. 

On January 5, 2026, at around 5:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to reports of a male suspect lowering his pants and exposing himself to park goers and soliciting them sexually. Officers located the suspect, Jerome Curry (44, of Charleston) who attempted to run from officers, and then punched, kicked and spit on several officers that were trying to detain him.

Curry was eventually arrested and treated and released from a local hospital and is currently in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center. Curry is facing the following charges:

  • Two counts of indecent exposure 
  • Four counts of assault on police while resisting arrest 
  • Two counts of throwing of bodily fluids 
  • Simple possession of marijuana 
  • Prohibited activities in a public park 
  • Disorderly conduct

Two officers were treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital. Curry is currently on the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry for a previous conviction of indecent exposure. He was also under the supervision of the South Carolina Probation, Parole and Pardon Services for a violent crime at the time of this incident.
