CITY OF CHARLESTON OFFICES TO REMAIN CLOSED FRIDAY AS ROAD CONDITIONS REMAIN UNSAFE

City of Charleston News Flash Posted on January 23, 2025

With roads expected to refreeze overnight and temperatures remaining low through the early morning tomorrow, City officials have decided to keep city offices closed Friday, January 24th for the safety of our employees.

Our crews have been working nonstop along with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) to clear roads for safe travel. Due to freezing temperatures overnight, crews are having to redo main roads that were plowed yesterday, hindering their ability to work on feeder and neighborhood roads that remain hazardous. These secondary roads will inhibit residents’ ability to safely travel, so out of concern for their safety, we are asking that they remain off the roads and adhere to barricades and road closures.

We are in collaboration with Charleston County School District (CCSD) and are ensuring they are taking all the necessary precautions in deciding on closings tomorrow.

All city garbage and trash routes have been suspended for the week. Normal collection will resume on Monday. If residents have extra garbage that will not fit into the cart, please place it next to the cart for collection.

We expect that we will be able to clear the roads by mid-day to mid-afternoon tomorrow (weather permitting). To keep up with the latest road and bridge closures, use this link.
