Charleston Police Department’s goal is to build leaders early in their careers, invest in their officers, and provide them with the tools necessary to be successful. The mentorship program was created to match current members of the department with new cadets in order to promote professional growth and provide an information resource to newly hired officers. Mentors are assigned prior to the cadet’s first day of employment with the Charleston Police Department and were selected to guide the cadet through Police Corps, the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, and patrol training. Mentors and cadets are encouraged to maintain the mentorship beyond the cadets’ first year of service.
