How is the Alternate Side & Signed Street Sweeping different than regular street sweeping?
The Alternate Side & Signed Street Sweeping program, or regulated street sweeping, is an enhanced street sweeping service requested by neighborhoods. Residents or commuters are required to move their vehicle in regulated street sweeping zones during street sweeping periods.
Unregulated street sweeping occurs through most of the City limits. Not all neighborhoods or streets receive street sweeping. Some streets are too narrow, and others don't have curbs for the sweeper to follow, making the sweeping ineffective.
How do I know if I'm in a street sweeping district?
Check the signage on the street. You can also enter an address into this map.
How do I know when to move my car for street sweeping?
Always check the signage on the street when parking. There is a set schedule for the Alternate Side & Signed Street Sweeping program that will be indicated by the street signage.
How can I remember when street sweeping is?
You can sign up for street sweeping notifications by downloading the ChsTrashTracker app to your phone, or by entering your address on the sidebar on this page.
I think my car got towed. What do I do?
If your vehicle was towed due to being parked in a street sweeping zone, call Jennings Towing at 843-554-6385 to confirm that they have your vehicle. You will have to pay a $130 fee to Jennings, in addition to a $45 ticket to the City of Charleston. To pay a parking ticket, click here.
My street is in the program. Why didn't it get swept on the scheduled date/time?
There are a lot of reasons why a street may not have been swept. Sometimes if people leave their vehicles on the street and the towing company is not able to get to them in time, the sweeper may not be able to fit down that part of the street.
My neighbors are interested in having this program in our neighborhood.
