The Charleston Police Department Harbor Patrol has protected Charleston's waterways since 1983. Today, it operates full-time with a Sergeant, three officers, and eight collateral officers. Responsibilities include waterway safety, search and rescue, port security, abandoned boat removal, and marine support for special units. The fleet includes multiple boats, from center consoles to an airboat. As a member of the Charleston Metro Marine Unit (CMMU), Harbor Patrol collaborates with local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring swift, coordinated responses.
