Special Weapons & Tactics (SWAT)

The Charleston Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) is a specially trained unit established to systematically intercede in emergency and non-emergency situations determined to be beyond the normal scope and capabilities of patrol officers. Their missions include but are not limited to Hostage Rescue, Barricaded Subjects, High-Risk Warrant Service, Dignitary Protection, and other circumstances that may require a higher degree of skill, teamwork, and weaponry. Team personnel are trained to assist department personnel with managing volatile situations.
