Special Weapons & Tactics (SWAT)

This unit is deployed in situations of high risk, including felony search & arrest warrants, hostage situations, barricaded suspects, and dignitary protection.

The Charleston Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) is a specially trained unit established to systematically intercede in emergency and non-emergency situations determined to be beyond the normal scope and capabilities of patrol officers. Team personnel are trained to assist department personnel with managing volatile situations.
