Appeal Instructions
A Notice of Appeal must be filed with the City of Charleston Municipal Court within ten (10) calendar days of the date of your sentence or judgment. Calendar days include Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. If the 10th day falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, you may file on the next business day.
The fine assessed by the judge at time of sentencing must be paid when filing the Notice of Appeal.
The Notice of Appeal must be in writing and include:
Your full name and address
Telephone number
Ticket or warrant number
Date of trial and charge
Grounds for appeal
A Notice of Appeal form is available in the Clerk of Court’s office.
The Notice of Appeal may be mailed or hand-delivered within ten (10) days of the date of your sentence or judgment to:

The Municipal Court will file the appeal along with the judge’s return to the Court of Common Pleas for Charleston County. Notification of your appeal hearing will be sent from the Court of Common Pleas to the address listed on the appeal paperwork.
